Interesting video on MMA acrylic and Non Standard Salons. 

MMA is the bain of a good nail technician's life.  This chemical is banned in almost all states of the USA and in New Zealand and Canada.  It is recognised by an extremely strong sweet smell, the technicians using this product are usually found to be wearing facemasks and using electric files (drills), you will rarely pay above £25 for a full set of extenstions (these nails are not enhancements as they do not "enhance" your natural nail) as the MMA is extremely cheap in comparison to professional EMA acrylics and therefore the salon's overheads are drastically reduced.  Electric files have to be used on this product as it is so hard that normal nail files cannot be used on it.  This is not to say that E-files are wrong - on the right product with good training they are fine.  MMA does not come off easily and when soaked in acetone has a texture like glue. 

If you are currently going to a salon that you think may be using MMA but you aren't sure then please contact me and we can make an appointment for you to get your nails checked out and removed/replaced if you require.  If you are going to an MMA salon you are more likely to damage your natural nails, be subjected to unhygienic practices and potentially suffer from infections and ultimately nail loss.
